Bill for tribal univ ready, to be placed during monsoon session

Daltonganj: A bill for Jharkhand’s tribal University is ready for the state cabinet’s approval and will be placed in the assembly during the monsoon session for the enactment of an Act and statues, officials said.
Director of higher, technical education and skill development department Sushant Gaurav said, “Our department is constantly working to make the University a reality and we have crossed all hurdles. The draft bill is ready for the cabinet’s approval.”
Sources said the country’s two premier institutes — Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Amarkantak in Madhya Pradesh and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences, Bhubaneswar, Odisha — have been considered as models for the University after a detailed study of the functioning of the two institutes by the state HRD department.
After becoming the chief minister, Hemant Soren called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a tribal University in the state. According to sources, the state government is mulling to set up the University either in Dumka or in Ranchi in view of Adivasi dominance in the two districts.
Social activist Akhtar Zama Khan of Daltonganj said, “Over half a dozen Universities of Jharkhand, including NPU Daltonganj and SKMU Dumka, are languishing for want of assistant professors, associate professors, professors and other staff members. Unless manpower shortage is resolved, the University will not be of much use.”
