update: India's total number of cases has jumped to 290,481, and death toll to 8,143, in the country's biggest-ever spike in the number of cases and deaths in a single day, according to Worldometer. India is now only a shade behind the UK among the most affected countries globally.

There is no community transmission of Covid-19 at the national level, while the measures helped in controlling the spread of the deadly virus until now, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General Balram Bhargava said on Thursday.

The recovery rate in the country currently stands at 49.21 per cent, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that India should convert the Covid-19 crisis into a turning point towards becoming a self-reliant nation. PM Modi also emphasized the need for import-substitution while delivering the inaugural address of the 95th annual plenary session of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) via video conferencing.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discus the Covid-19 situation in the national capital. Delhi recorded 1,501 fresh Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, taking its tally to over 32,800, while the death toll in the national capital due to the disease climbed to 984.
