YEIDA seeks nod to challenge HC order on relief to farmers

Greater Noida: Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) will challenge the judgment of the Allahabad high court related to farmers’ compensation in the Supreme Court only if it gets the go-ahead from the state government, officials said.
On May 28, the high court had set aside the order of the state government, issued on August 29, 2014, as “illegal”. Having quashed the order, the bench had also stated that the demand of 64.7% additional premium from the allottees of plot plots along the Yamuna expressway to pay the farmers was illegal.
Officiating additional CEO of YEIDA, Shailendra Bhatia, said, “We were following the directions of the state government on the matter. Since the government order has been quashed, the opinion of the legal department of UP government has now been sought. We would go by their findings and recommendations.”
YEIDA will seek the opinion of the experts before challenging the order before the Supreme Court, officials said.
“The order issued in August 2014 had been passed by the government in consultation with the ministers concerned and hence it was the prerogative of the state government to take a decision on the matter. We would wait for the legal opinion of the experts before moving the court,” said a source.
