The India Meteorological Department has announced that southwest monsoon has arrived in Maharashtra. IMD, Mumbai’s Deputy Director General K S Hosalikar informed that the onset line is passing over Harnai in Solapur, Ramagundum in Telangana and Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh.
With heavy showers lashing some coastal parts of Maharashtra, the IMD has said that conditions are favourable for further advancement in southwest monsoon in the state. Issuing warning of heavy rainfall in some parts of Marathwada and Central Maharashtra, the Met department has said that monsoon is likely to cover all parts except for North Konkan and North Central Maharashtra in coming four to five days.
Mumbai and its suburbs are likely to receive widespread rains and thunderstorms over the next 48 hours. The city’s civic body has already issued an advisory asking citizens to visit nearby clinics or inform community health volunteers if they experience symptoms like fever with chills, joint pains, rashes, cough, breathlessness, diarrhoea, vomiting and sore throat. In an effort to prevent monsoon-related diseases, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has urged citizens to keep their premises clean.
