After facing the effects of the cyclone Nisarga last week, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall from June 12 in various parts of Maharashtra.  

The weather forecast department has suggested that the heavy rainfall could lead to landslides in the ghat areas. The officials also mentioned that Konkan and Madha ( central) Maharashtra was currently on orange alert. 

The cyclone last week that made landfall at Alibaug, a coastal town of Maharashtra, various districts have experienced major devastation. Ratnagiri, Pune and other districts were among the majorly affected. 

Going forward, the IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Marathwada and Vidarbha regions of Maharashtra and Pune is expected to receive moderate rainfall. 

Speaking to TOI, IMD's Anupam Kashyap said that rainfall is expected to increase in Maharashtra from June 11. 

"We have forecast heavy rains in isolated places in the ghat areas in Pune district on June 12 and heavy to very heavy rain in isolated places in the ghats in Pune district on June 13," he told TOI.

Stating that the conditions were becoming favourable for rainfall in Maharashtra, IMD Director-General, KS Hosalikar also expressed that the west coast is expected to become active Thursday onwards and Marathwada can receive downpour from June 12 and 13.
