VELLORE: Five special teams from the public health department nabbed three quacks in Ranipet district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday. The clinics were sealed.
The arrested quacks have been identified as Parthiban, 55, of Timiri and Ranganathan, 51, and Gandhi, 65, of Kavalur village. The three accused had been running their separate clinics at Kavalur for more than 15 years.
I Yasmin, joint director of health department, Ranipet district, said, “We got a tip-off from district collector S Divyadarshini that quacks were present near Timiri town panchayat. Following this, five special teams, comprising 50 public health department officials, conducted raids in the district. The officials conducted a surprise raid at Kavalur.”
During the raid, three quacks were identified without a medical degree and pharmaceutical licence. The quacks practised allopathic treatment on their patients. The officials seized medicines that were used for treatment and for sales.
Preliminary investigations revealed that all three accused were Class X dropouts and pursued a diploma course in ayurveda medicine.
Parthiban, Ranganathan and Gandhi were handed over to the Timiri police. Further investigations were on.
