COIMBATORE: Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami would take a decision on extending the
lockdown in
Tamil Nadu after consulting senior ministers and health experts, said state
health minister C Vijaya Baskar on Thursday.
“He will also take into consideration reports by a panel of health experts before deciding if the lockdown has to be extended,’’ Vijaya Baskar told reporters in Coimbatore after inspecting ESI Hospital here.
However, the minister did not specify any time or date for such a meeting by the CM.
The minister’s response comes in the wake of social media messages that the lockdown could be extended and that rules would be made much more stringent.
Vijaya Baskar said the state government was yet to decide on allowing Covid-19 patients to be treated at home. “For now, we are treating all the patients in hospitals. If a decision on allowing treatment at homes is taken, it would be done so with stringent surveillance measures,’’ he said.
In that case, the patients under domiciliary treatment would be given pulse oximeters, he said. “The state has procured 20,000 new pulse oximeters,” he added.
