MANGALURU/UDUPI:
Coastal districts of Udupi and
Dakshina Kannada on Thursday witnessed a mini spike of 24
Covid-19 positive cases including 22 in Udupi after two-days of zero cases that the temple town recorded on Tuesday and Wednesday. Twenty-one of these 24 cases were reported in those who returned from Maharashtra including 20 in Udupi and 1 in DK and three cases have been categorised as ‘
contact under tracing’ in the state bulletin.
Udupi deputy commissioner
G Jagadeesha said the day’s 22 positive cases were already under treatment since June 4/5 at covid care centre and were announced as fresh cases in state bulletin due to a technicality. These include 11 men, nine women and two children, he said. Out of the two cases categorised contact under tracing, both are health department staff, including a group D staff, he said adding both these corona warriors are healthy and under treatment.
On the brighter side, Udupi that discharged 552 patients post treatment till date released an additional 106 patients post the 5pm announcement of state bulletin. “We have discharged 658 patients so far and at present are left with 358 active cases,” he said, adding these too will be discharged if their 7th day report comes out negative. Those who test positive, will be retested on the 10th day and discharged once their report comes, Jagadeesha said.
On a day that DK recorded 2 positive cases, district
Wenlock Hospital, the designated Covid-19 hospital, echoed the cries of a new-born male child to Covid-19 woman patient, delivered through C-section. This is the first such instance in DK, Dr Ramachandra Bairy, DHO, said. “With no recorded case of transmission of coronavirus from the placenta to the womb, the infant is unlikely to be an exception due to antibodies generated in his mother,” he said.
The active cases in DK after the discharge of eight patients on the day stands at 97, said Sindhu B Rupesh, deputy commissioner. Barring P-3183, a 50-year-old male who is admitted in the ICU with complaints of diabetes and blood pressure, other patients are stable and recovering, she said. While Dakshina Kannada is awaiting results of 162 swab samples, Udupi on the other hand is awaiting results of 48 samples, the respective bulletins pointed out.
