Ranchi: The number of coronavirus
cases in
Jharkhand crossed the 1,500-mark with 128 persons from 14 districts testing positive for Covid-19. Along with the seven diagnosed around midnight on Tuesday, Jhrkhand has so far recorded 1,551 cases, of which 951 are active, 592 have recovered (including 33 on Wednesday) and eight persons have died, the state health department said in a bulletin issued at 9pm said,
In a concern for the state health authorities, the figure has doubled in just a week — Jharkhand had 780 cases on June 3. In some respite, there were no new cases recorded in Ranchi, where the outbreak started on March 31, after a period of 10 days.
Giridih (19 cases), Pakur (12) and Palamu (7) registered their biggest one-day spike in
Covid cases, while the spurt in new cases continued in Simdega (31) and East Singhbhum (20) — the two districts, which did not have a single case until May 12, on Wednesday became the first two to cross the 200-mark. East Singhbhum has 214 cases (164 active) while Simdega has 209 (174 active, one casualty).
Among other districts, Koderma recorded 12 cases, Hazaribag seven, Chatra and Lohardaga five each, Bokaro, Khunti, Ramgarh, Saraikeka and West Singhbhum two each. Wednesday’s figures represent the third largest spike in Jharkhand since the outbreak on March 31 and all of them have come in the last four days. The state recorded 187 cases on June 8 and 113 on June 7.
