LUCKNOW: A 20-second viral video showing municipal workers dumping the body of a man in a garbage van in Balrampur led to an outburst on social media platforms on Friday.
The video forced district administration and the police to take action following which three cops and four municipal workers were suspended. DM Balrampur-Krisnha Karunesh has also ordered an inquiry under SDM-Utraula and CO Utraula.
A 20 second video shows that a 42-year-old man identified as Mohammed Anwar, who had died on a road is being picked up by three municipal workers and then dumped into a van. The video also shows that just beside the van- three cops in uniform are witnessing the scene as mute spectators. Not only the cops but also the ambulance staff refuses to touch the body.
The incident had taken place near Tehshil Gate of Utraula block in Balrampur on Wednesday evening, said the police.
Taking cognizance of the video, Superintendent of police, Dev Ranjan Verma has expressed shock and called it inhuman. He has also issued a warning and instructed all the cops to assemble to the lines on Friday to give lessons of “sensitivity” to the personnel.
Anwar, was a resident of Sahzora village under Sadullahnagar police station in Balrampur. He had gone to a local government office where he had collapsed and later died near the gate.
A footage later retrieved from the spot shows his body lying on the ground with a bottle of water next to it.
