NIRF Rankings 2020, MHRD NIRF India University Ranking List 2020 Live Updates: Despite their poor performance in the international rankings, IITs have emerged as the top institutes in India’s NIRF rankings announced today. The top-ranking institute in India is IIT-Madras followed by IISc Bangalore and at third rank is IIT-Delhi, reveals the Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.
In the fifth NIRF ranking, in the university category, top rank is obtained by the IISc followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and at third rank is Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The top rank in terms of university, pharma, and overall category as well as in the college category remain the same. Miranda House is the top college in India and in the Pharma category, Jamia Hamdard has once again claimed the top position. IIT-Madras becomes best engineering college.
Regarding the poor performance in the international ranking, the HRD minister said that the bad rank obtained by the Indian institute is because of the high weightage given to ‘perspective’ as a parameter which is a subjective thing and he does not agree with it. One of the major reasons behind the decline in the ranking of Indian institutes is cited as a lack of internationalisation by international ranking orgaisations. HRD said that NIRF ranking will reach a point where international institutes will wish to be ranked in Indian rankings as opposed to the current trend.
The number of Indian institutes which registered for the NIRF ranking this year has increased from 20 per cent as compared to last year. This year for the first time dental institutes will also be ranked.
