MUMBAI: The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar on June 13 and 14.
The official date for the onset of monsoon over Mumbai is June 11. Weathermen have said conditions are favourable for its arrival in the next few days and there may not be much of a delay. It may be recollected, though, that last year monsoon was delayed by two weeks and arrived on June 25.
On Thursday, the city can expect thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speed reaching 30-40kmph in isolated places.
IMD on Wednesday said monsoon has advanced and is moderate to strong over the Arabian Sea. "Conditions are becoming favourable for further advancement of south-west monsoon in some more parts of central Arabian Sea, Goa, parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh and central and north Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours," it said.
