Big Brother Australia's Talia Rycroft was branded a 'mean girl' and 'villain' by viewers on Wednesday night, and forced to take action amid the growing backlash.

The 22-year-old disabled comments on her Instagram posts as fans turned on her, after she isolated intruder Hannah Campbell for no apparent reason on TV.

A source close to the blonde tells Daily Mail Australia that her portrayal on the program so far has raised eyebrows among some of her friends and family.

'Talia is very family orientated and a sweetheart in real life - and absolutely nothing like what she's started to be portrayed as [on Big Brother],' the insider said.

'Even some of the other housemates have been saying they're surprised watching it back. The Talia they knew in the house was lovely. She's had the worst edit.'

After Wednesday's episode aired, Talia's father Joe Sommariva discussed the backlash against her on his personal Facebook, saying she is 'strong'.

'It's all part of the game. Talia is strong and will breach over negativity,' said Joe.

Talia went out of her way to exclude newcomer Hannah on Wednesday night.

She initially took a dislike to Hannah after she revealed that she's an AFL player in Perth, which impressed Daniel Gorringe, who is Talia's close friend.

As Talia than asked Hannah to guess her own surprising career, she had a face of fury when the brunette responded 'stripper?' in an attempt to break the ice.

'She's had the worst edit': The source added, 'Even some of the other housemates have been saying they're surprised watching it back. The Talia they knew in the house was lovely'

Housemate Sarah McDougal revealed that she previously met Hannah during the Big Brother audition process, branding her 'rude', 'not nice' and a 'try hard'.

This prompted Talia to confess that she 'hated' Hannah, and later excluded her from the group as she attempted to get to know the girls around the swimming pool.

Viewers vented she was a 'mean girl', 'villain' and 'out of line' across Twitter and Instagram, prompting Talia to disable comments on her own social platforms.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Channel Seven for comment.
