TOI FILEBENGALURU: Panic gripped the employees of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Thursday after a 43-year-old conductor of K R Puram depot tested positive for Covid-19.
A BMTC statement said the employee tested positive on Wednesday. “The employee has been admitted to Covid designated hospital for treatment. He was on leave for three days and he got himself tested for Covid-19 at a designated hospital”. “On daily reporting to duty, he didn’t have any symptoms of fever or health issues. Contact tracing has been initiated by health department officials”, it said.
He had a travel history to Kalaburagi and Vijayapura districts. “The workplace has been disinfected and sanitised as per prescribed norms. Further action as per the advice of health department officials will be initiated. BMTC has taken all necessary measures to ensure safety of its employees and travelling public”, it said.
Sources say he was working as a conductor till June 5 on Hebbal-Silk Board and Shivajinagar-Hoodi bus routes. “Health department has identified 5-6 primary contacts in the K R Puram depot and they will be quarantined. We are checking the temperature of all staff every day but he had no symptoms or fever” said a senior official.
