BHUBANESWAR: The higher education department on Thursday decided to cancel both theory and practical tests of the end semester/final year of undergraduate (UG) and post graduate (PG) courses. This decision will be implemented by all universities and autonomous colleges coming under the jurisdiction of the department.
Keeping the Covid-19 situation in mind, the state government took this decision. Even students of different universities had protested against the decision of the state government for holding offline examinations of UG and PG courses between June and August.
The government sources said the universities and autonomous colleges will follow UGC guidelines to conduct alternate evaluation of the UG and PG final semester papers and publish the results by end of August.

According to the process, the institutions will take prescribed weightage of internal mark along with average of marks obtained in all previous semesters/years in that subject for the remaining weightage.

If students think that they can get more marks than the alternative method of evaluation, universities and autonomous colleges will conduct examinations for them in November. It will publish their revised results in December this year.

This decision will not be applicable for the institutions who have already completed both theory and practical examinations. These institutions will publish the results after evaluating it in time.

If any student has two back papers, they will also not appear for the examinations. Proportionate quotient or other methods will be used for evaluation of these back papers, said the government statement.

If the students have more than two back papers in end semester or final year, they have to appear for the examinations like before. Institutions will come up with the examination schedules keeping this situation in mind.

This decision will be implemented for all UG and PG courses except medical courses.

A meeting was organised here on Thursday to discuss on the examination issues. Higher education minister Arun Kumar Sahoo chaired the meeting attended by vice-chancellors of state public universities and principals of autonomous colleges. The decision came after discussing with heads of the institutions.

Earlier, the state government had decided that examinations for sixth semester of UG or Plus III final year will be held between June 20 and July 24. Result of these examinations will be declared by August 31. Similarly, final year PG examinations will be completed by August 20 and its results will be announced by September 20.
