With the 148th pick in the fifth round of the 2020 MLB Draft, the Red Sox wrapped up their draft with pitcher Shane Drohan out of Florida State.


A 6-foot-3, left-handed pitcher, Drohan started four games this spring where he struck out 27 batters in 17.2 innings while sporting 4.08 ERA. Last year, he pitched in 16 games, making 11 starts, for the Seminoles where he struck out 71 batters in 51.2 innings. He finished the season with a 3.66 ERA. He struck out a career-high eight [...]

A 6-foot-3, left-handed pitcher, Drohan started four games this spring where he struck out 27 batters in 17.2 innings while sporting 4.08 ERA. Last year, he pitched in 16 games, making 11 starts, for the Seminoles where he struck out 71 batters in 51.2 innings. He finished the season with a 3.66 ERA. He struck out a career-high eight batters against Boston College and ended up playing summer ball for Falmouth of the Cape Cod League.


Drohan’s fastball touches 95 mph to go with a curveball and changeup. He was the 104th ranked prospect by Perfect game, 147th by MLB.com, 189th by Baseball America and 202nd by Fangraphs. He was drafted out of high school by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 23rd round of the 2017 MLB Draft. His father, Bill Drohan, was a pitcher in the Kansas City Royals organization for four years (1987-1990).
