KOLKATA: The West Bengal CID questioned BJP’s Ranaghat MP Jagannath Sarkar for over four hours on Wednesday over the murder of Trinamool’s Krishnaganj MLA Satyajit Biswas.
Sarkar entered CID headquarters at Bhavani Bhawan at 11.30am and came out at 4pm. This was the sixth time he was called for questioning. Biswas was shot from point blank range on February 9, 2019.
Armed with call details recovered from Sarkar’s cellphone, CID officers wanted Sarkar to clarify on the series of calls he made to some TMC seniors and a BJP leader. Investigators also asked about his increased presence in the area days before the murder.
The MP maintains the investigation is an outcome of political vendetta. “I became the target of Trinamool since I emerged as a challenge to them in Nadia,” he said.
In another development, BJP MP Saumitra Khan was stopped by police at Baruipur while he was leading party supporters to submit a representation to the district administration.
