Thefts for drugs: Jewellers 'partners in crime' with Chandigarh burglars

CHANDIGARH: Two thieves caught with five motorcycles, seven LPG cylinders, and some gold and silver have led the Sarangpur police to two jewellers who used to buy stolen ornaments from them.
Accused Babloo 'Gorilla' and Izhar 'Daadi' are from the EWS (economically weaker section) flats in Dhanas. Jewellers Rajan and Kirpa Shankar are also from Dhanas. The recovered gold and silver is worth Rs 1 lakh.
Police claim to have also recovered 2 LED screens (55 and 32 inches) and Sony camera from them. Total stolen items are worth Rs 6 lakh. A secret input led police to lay a trap near the government school of Dhanas. They claim that the arrest of Babloo and Izhar has solved two burglary cases in the jurisdiction.
All article were stolen from two houses of Dhanas this year. The accused are reported to have named two accomplices in these crimes and a manhunt for them is on.
Police produced the four arrested accused in a local court, which remanded Babloo and Izhar in two days of police custody, while Rajan and Kirpa Shankar in 14-day judicial custody.
Police say that Babloo and Izhar steal for drugs and target only the houses in their neighbourhood. Police also say that the two used to sell off the jewellery dirt cheap. Cops expect to recover more stolen articles from them.
