MUMBAI: An 80-year-old Malad (east) resident, Vitthal Mulye, who purportedly escaped from a civic hospital, where he was being treated for Covid, died on the spot after he was knocked down by a train on Monday.
An accidental death has been recorded. Mulye was admitted to Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital, Kandivli (west), on Saturday. He “sneaked out” for reasons unknown. Around 7am, he was crossing the tracks when a train knocked him down.
The railway police took him to the same hospital where it was learnt that Mulye was a runaway patient. The police have not said if it were a suicide bid or an accident. “We have to record the motorman’s statement,” said a police officer.
Mulye’s grandson, Pravin Raut, wrote to local BJP leader Vinod Mishra alleging negligence by the hospital. Mishra tweeted the letter. Raut alleged that a body was kept on the bed beside Mulye's which possibly scared him.TNN
