Punjab: Man stabs eight-month pregnant wife to death in Patiala

PATIALA: An eight-month pregnant woman died after being stabbed by her husband following an argument in Rajpura division of Patiala district.
The woman was assaulted with a sharp-edged object on Tuesday evening. She succumbed to injuries on Wednesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Saroj (21), who was living with her husband in a rented house for the past few years.
The police have identified the accused as Ganga Kumar (24), who used to work as a labourer.
According to the police, the couple had a heated argument following which the accused stabbed Saroj in the womb and then in her back and fled from the spot.
The police said that the bleeding woman was rushed to a government hospital where doctors immediately referred her for a higher institute. The doctors declared that her foetus was dead when she was brought to government Rajindra Hospital.
“The body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem. The woman was stabbed in her womb and then in the back. The couple hails from UP but had been living in Punjab for the past few years. The accused along with his wife and 1.5-year-old son started living in a rented house separately from their parents a few months ago. We have initiated a probe in the matter after registering the case under sections of murder against the accused who will be nabbed soon,” investigating officer Mehma Singh said.
