A partial lockdown was observed in Palyem village in Pernem after one local resident tested positive for COVID-19 in the initial test conducted, causing panic in the
village. Many commercial shops and establishments in the village remained closed on Wednesday following anxiety and fear among the villagers following reports of one of the locals working for Kadamba Transport Corporation testing positive in the preliminary test.

The panchayat has appealed to the villagers to remain indoors for a period of five days. On Wednesday, life continued normally in the village apart from shops downing shutters.

Confirming the lockdown, sarpanch Uday Gawandi said, “Following reports of one of the locals testing positive, we appealed to all villagers to remain under total lockdown for a period of five days. Following our request, villagers on their own maintained a lockdown and commercial shops and dairy remained closed. People also cooperated and remained indoors for the entire day.” He said, “Situation in the village is under control and we are thankful to all villagers who have cooperated.”

Meanwhile, the Pernem fire station personnel undertook a drive to sanitise houses and the surrounding premises of the local who has tested positive for
COVID.
