AHMEDABAD: Gujarat in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Wednesday recorded 510
Covid-19 positive cases, taking the total to 21,554. The new cases include 343 from Ahmedabad, 73 from Surat and 35 from Vadodara. With the new cases, Ahmedabad district crossed 15,000 total positive cases whereas the city’s tally reached to 14,845.
It is third time that the state has breached the 500 mark in a day and twice in past two days. On June 5, Gujarat had recorded 510 cases. Likewise, in past one week, the lowest daily positive count has been 470 – in eight days, the state has added 3,922 cases at the average of 490 cases.
For Ahmedabad, it was third highest cases ever. The district has consecutively recorded 300-plus cases for past four days.
The state also recorded deaths of 34 Covid-19 positive patients in 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1347. The deaths include 26 from Ahmedabad, two each from Surat and Aravalli and one each from Gandhinagar, Bhavnagar, Banaskantha and Sabarkantha. A silver lining for the state is, Vadodara – third in total number of Covid-19 positive cases in Gujarat – has not recorded a single death in past four days.
It was fourth consecutive day for the state to record 30 or more deaths in a day. For Ahmedabad, it was fifth time in past 10 days that the death count was more than 25.
The total number of discharged patients reached to 14,743 with discharge of 370 patients in 24 hours. The patients included 266 from Ahmedabad, 53 from Surat, 14 from Vadodara and 12 from Gandhinagar.
Out of the total 21,554 Covid-19 positive cases in Gujarat, 5464 (25.4%) are active, 14,743 (68.4%) patients are discharged and 1347 (6.2%) patients are dead.
Gujarat carried out 4,817 tests in 24 hours, taking the total to 2.66 lakh. It is only second time in past 10 days that the number of daily tests to find out new Covid-19 patients has dipped below 5,000 in Gujarat.
As on Wednesday evening, Gujarat has 2.12 lakh persons under quarantine including 2.05 lakh under home quarantine.
