NASHIK: An 82-year-old Covid-19 positive woman was found dead in a toilet block of Government Medical College Hospital in Jalgaon district.
The incident came to light when fellow patients started complaining about foul smell following which the toilet block, which was locked from inside, was broke open and the woman's body was found inside it.
The relatives of the deceased, a resident of Bhusawal city, had registered the mission person's complaint on June 6 with the local police station after the hospital sources said they were not able to locate the elderly patient.
According to the relatives of the deceased, her 62-year-old son had tested positive for Covid-19. He was later discharged from the hospital. Her daughter-in-law too was diagnosed positive.
While her daughter-in-law died on June 1, the elderly woman was shifted from Bhusawal Railway Hospital in Bhusawal city to Government Medical College Hospital in Jalgaon for further treatment.
The woman was untraceable since June 3, following which the relatives tracked her down using her Aadhar credentials. It was found that her name was wrongly punched in the hospital records.
"But after two days, when we called up to check the health of the patient on June 6, we were told that there was no patient of the description in the hospital. We then rushed to local police station and registered a missing complaint,” a relative of the deceased said.
“We searched her across the city and with our relatives but we had no clue. We were not allowed in Covid Hospital. We fail to understand how a toilet block could be left unattended for five days by the staff there when cleanliness matters. It is a ridiculous. We have lost our dear one only because of the careless attitude of the hospital and its staff,” Nehate said.
“We have taken the note of the incident in which a patient missing for five days was found dead in the hospital. The police are doing their part. There has been a major faux pas by the staff there as it is beyond imagination how a particular blocked can be left an attended for such long time. A comprehensive report will be sent to the state government,” Collector of Jalgaon, Avinash dhakne said.
