Punjab: Sangrur reports first Covid-19 death, 11 more positive; 4 positive cases in Patiala

PATIALA: As many as eleven fresh cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Sangrur district taking the tally to 134 however the district also reported it's first death due to the coronavirus on Wednesday. A total of 105 cases have been recovered and 28 cases are active.
The deceased patient has been identified as a 70-year-old resident of Malerkotla who died after undergoing treatment on the ventilator from last four days in Patiala TB hospital as he was also a TB patient. The health authorities said that four of his family members comprising 1.5-year-old girl child and the nine-year-old boy also tested positive. The deceased was a tailor by profession however the health officials claimed that his source of infection was unknown so far.
Similarly, a 38-year-old woman of Jhaloor village of Sangrur who is an assistant to Anganwadi worker and two persons from Malerkota including one of them having travel history from Delhi also tested positive of the virus. The officials revealed that besides this, two cops of Sangrur police line had also tested positive of the virus during random testing as per the state government guidelines.
Meanwhile in Patiala, four fresh cases were declared positive of the virus on Wednesday taking the tally to 151 positive cases.
Civil surgeon Dr Harish Malhotra said that 622 samples were sent for testing on Tuesday of which 618 reported negative while four reported positive including the wife of a Covid-19 patient from Pathak Vihar area in Patiala city, two persons from Nabha, and a Thalassemia patient who tested positive in PGI Chandigarh while undergoing COVID-19 sampling. Besides this, a Malerkotla resident who was getting his treatment of TB from Patiala government hospital was also tested positive after his samples were taken by the health department.
The officials revealed that so far there are 32 active cases in Patiala whereas 116 patients have got recovered. Dr Malhotra said that a total of 10,058 samples have been taken for testing of which 8622 reported negative and 151 tested positive whereas the reports of around 1255 samples were awaited. He said that 642 samples including samples of healthcare workers, cops and others were taken on Wednesday.
