Transport panel chief for restarting city buses

Nagpur: NMC transport committee chairman Narendra Borkar on Tuesday wrote to the municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe asking him to resume Aapli Bus service in a phased manner.
Following government directives, NMC had stopped city bus operations from March 22 due to coronavirus scare. The city buses are being used for transporting residents from containment zones to quarantine centres.
With the relaxation in lockdown, many cities including metros like Mumbai have resumed city bus services. Thus, Borkar has demanded Mundhe to consider starting bus operations in city too.
He suggested the operations be started following the guidelines of government which suggest filling buses to only half their capacity. The seating capacity of Aapli Buses are 42, 32 and 22, he said, which should be reduced to 21, 16 and 11 seats respectively. No standing passenger should be allowed, he said. tnn
