COVID care centre to be set up at Verna

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant Wednesday said the government will requisition a hostel at Verna for setting up of another COVID care centre.

He said it will be a 220-bedded COVID care centre and added that the primary health centre at Shiroda, which has already been converted into a COVID care centre, has capacity of 250 beds.

He also said the government has made it mandatory for the health staff working in COVID hospital and care centre to stay in nearby hotels, which have been requisitioned by the government.

On the current status of COVID-19 cases in the state, the Chief Minister said till date, 359 positive cases have been detected in the state of which 67 have recovered.

“We have 292 cases, which are active of which only 21 are symptomatic. None of the patients had to be put on ventilator,” he said, expressing confidence that out of the 292 active cases, 150 will recover in the next seven to ten days.

Sawant said that except for three patients out of the 108 persons who entered the state from abroad and other parts of the country and have tested positive, all are Goans. He said of the total cases, 194 are from Mangor Hill area, which has been declared as a containment zone. He said 57 cases found in different parts of the state are linked to the Mangor-Hill area and added that 19 are healthcare workers, four KTC staff

and another four are post office employees.

The Chief Minister said that 11 persons who have tested positive for the infection are relatives of the healthcare staff. “Till date, the government has conducted 32,194 tests in the state which is highest in the country as per population ratio,” he said.
