NEW DELHI: Thunderstorms and rain lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Wednesday, bringing respite from the stifling heat.
The rain occurred under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over north Rajasthan, and a trough running from north Pakistan to a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department said.
Light rains and thunderstorms with winds gusting up to 50km per hour were witnessed in parts of Delhi, said Kuldeep Srivastava, the head of the regional forecasting centre of the IMD.

The mercury is expected to stay low in the next few days as moisture-laden easterly winds due to the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal will bring rains in Delhi-NCR on June 12 and June 13, he said.
No heat wave is expected in the capital till June 15, the senior scientist said.
Heavy rain and storm lashed Noida and Greater Noida as well in the evening, uprooting trees, damaging vehicles and bringing down billboards that blocked key roads, including some between the city and the national capital.
Traffic snarls were reported on the Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) Highway as well as on the Kalindi Kunj Road due to trees and billboards falling on the roads, while similar scenes were witnessed along routes to Greater Noida.
"Traffic has been disrupted due to felling of trees on the Kalindi Kunj road going from Delhi to Noida, Please be patient. Use an alternate route," the Gautam Buddh Nagar traffic police tweeted.

A hoarding fell on the road in Sector 20 police station area due to the heavy storm which disrupted traffic movement, a police official said.
No loss of life was reported immediately, the police said.
