Sri Lankan Government has decided to reopen all public schools under four stages starting this month end as the country is gradually returning to normalcy with no community COVID infections reported for over a month.

Education Minister Dullas Alahapperuma told a media briefing that the teachers and principals will return to schools on the 29th of this month under the first stage.

Under the second stage, schools will reopen for students in Grade 13, 11 and 5 on the 06th of July.

The third stage will see the resumption of academic activities of students in Grade 10 and 12 on the 20th of July.

On the 27th of July, schools will reopen for students in Grade 3,4,6,7,8 and 9 in the fourth and final stage.

However, there is no decision on the date to resume Grade 1 and 2 classes.

The country has seen trebling of cases in last one and half months but most of them are from a navy camp and returnees from foreign countries.

Meanwhile, 67 more COVID-19-positive patients have recovered taking Sri Lanka’s recoveries count up to 1,057.

There are total 1,857 infections reported in the country so far and eleven of them have died.

The number of active cases under medical care meanwhile stands at 789.

Offices and shops have already started to function last month after a curfew of over two months.
