Suman Rao’s handcrafted PDKF Sari on auction to raise funds for women artisans

Our very own Miss Word 2019 - 2nd Runner-up and Miss Word Asia 2019 Suman Rao’s 'Beauty With a Purpose' project ‘Project Pragati’ aims to empower the women residing in rural areas in her home state Rajasthan, by generating employment opportunities, fostering financial independence and working towards improving female literacy ratio.

In light of the pandemic, Project Pragati in collaboration with Princess Diya Kumari Foundation (PDKF) is organizing a ‘Fundraiser Auction’ to support women artisans whose livelihoods have been affected due to the pandemic. This #PDKF Fundraiser will also aid in sustaining the COVID-19 relief work of providing essentials and protection supplies to medical teams and migrant workers.

This beautiful Sari was handcrafted by the women at PDKF for Suman Rao, for her international beauty pageant round at Miss World 2019, which was held in London. Suman was among the top 10 winners for her work at Project Pragati, the project is very close to her heart and speaking about it she says, “Pragati means progress – something that I want the women of my family and society to experience. There is a huge gap between women and their ability to access their rights. And we need to bridge that gap, which will help them make ends meet. Project Pragati will be that bridge which will support these women and make them empowered.”

The fundraiser seeks to promote the 'Handmade in Rajasthan' movement and aims to raise funds for supporting women artisans. Suman Rao is a strong advocate of women empowerment and her sari is being auctioned as a fundraiser. The opening bid price is INR 𝟏𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎.
