Coronavirus: Stoke City manager tests positive; friendly match against Manchester United cancelled

The match between the two clubs was supposed to be held at Manchester United’s training base. But after testing positive, the Stoke city players along with the manager has to leave.

Leeds (UK): Manchester United Vs. Stoke city-friendly match was called off as Stoke City manager tested positive for COVID-19. The decision to cancel the match was taken at the last minute. 

The match between the two clubs was supposed to be held at Manchester United’s training base. But after testing positive, the Stoke city players along with the manager has to leave.

In an official statement, the club’s spokesperson told, “Stoke City can confirm that manager Michael O’Neill has tested positive for coronavirus.” 

The manager tested positive in the final round after testing negative for the earlier five rounds. 

It further stated, “He will now follow the relevant guidance and undergo the period of isolation, whilst continuing to be in regular virtual contact with his coaching staff and players."

For the last six times, premier league players and staff have been tested for COVID-19 contagion. Total of 13 positives was found out of 6,274 tests. 

Due to the pandemic, Premier League has been suspended since March, but it is supposed to be resumed on June 17.
