Set up pravasi centres in major cities to help migrants: Babulal to Jharkhand CM

Ranchi: BJP leader Babulal Marandi wrote to chief minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday, asking him to set up ‘Jharkhand Pravasi Kendras’ in major cities and towns across the country.
Referring to a recent report by the Centre of Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), Marandi said that Jharkhand recorded the highest unemployment rate in the country in May. The national unemployment rate was 23.2% , when the corresponding rate for Jharkhand was 59.2%. Marandi added that the unemployment rate in March was 8.2% , and it shot up to over 50% in just two months.
Marandi said, “Although, the state is receiving a heavy influx of migrants at the moment, it seems that most of them will venture out once again in search of jobs after a few months. Therefore, to keep a tab on them and ensure their well-being, the state should set up ‘Jharkhand Pravasi Kendras’ to act as a bridge between them and other stakeholders.”
He added that these centres can be modelled on the lines of embassies.
Notably, of the 7.5lakh migrants who registered with the state government portal since May, over five lakh have already arrived through buses, trains and flights. The chief minister had already announced that his government will prepare a database of migrants, and map their skills in order to provide them jobs within the state. He had also said that the workers will have to seek permission from the state government if they decide to migrate again.
