On Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said it had brought back from Hong Kong more than 2,300 kg of valuables worth Rs 1,350 crore, belonging to the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam firms accused Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi.

These valuables include polished diamonds, pearls and silver jewels and were kept in Hong Kong by a logistics company and brought in 108 shipments to Mumbai, ED said.

ED brought back 108 consignments containing polished diamonds, pearls, pearl and silver jewelry etc worth Rs. 1350 Crores (approx) of various overseas entities of Nirav Modi & Mehul Choksi which were kept in the godown of a logistics company in Hong Kong.

Of the 108 consignments that landed at Mumbai, 32 are owned by Modi's "controlled" overseas entities, while the rest are owned by Mehul Choksi.

The development comes a few days after a special court in Mumbai has allowed ED to confiscate the properties of Nirav Modi.

The official statement from the ED says these consignments had been sent from Dubai to Hong Kong in early 2018 and the ED received a tip-off the same year in the month of July.

Earlier in connection with the money laundering case on both the fugitives, the ED had successfully brought back 33 consignments of valuables from Dubai and Hong Kong. The agency said that those consignments were accessed by an independent valuer to be worth around Rs 137 crores.

To return those valuables, the ED completed "all legal formalities" with Hong Kong authorities. These will now officially be seized under the PMLA, the official statement said.

Nirav Modi is main accused of duping from Punjab National Bank. His uncle Mehul Choksi is also a high-ranking accuser in the case. Modi's fled to the UK in 2018.

Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi are Indian businessmen who are wanted by the authorities over thousands of crores in connection with cheating Indian banks.
