Chandigarh school teachers asked to resume duty from June 15

CHANDIGARH: Starting from June 15, teaching staff working in government and government aided schools of UT Chandigarh will have to come to school for "urgent administrative work". However, on any given day only 25% teaching staff will attend school. A group of teachers would be made and each set of teachers would be called on rotational basis. The remaining teachers would work from home. Schools have further been asked to form a committee including various stakeholders and submit suggestions for reopening of schools.

As per the letter sent to all the principals and heads of schools, Department of School Education, UT Chandigarh school were allowed to call teaching staff to visit the school premises for "supplementing online teaching, new admission of students, PISA preparedness, planning for conduct of CBSE exams and other works related to academic , administrative ,infrastructural issues of the school."

A letter issued by district education officer Alka Mehta read as, "It is clarified that at any given point of time or day not more than 25% teachers of the total strength of the school will be called on any working day. Preferably the same group of teachers will be called for one week and another set of teachers will replace the group during next week."

It was further instructed that the teachers residing in the containment zone will be not called for duty.

Also teachers suffering from old age health problems or with co morbidities or pregnancy will not be called to school.


It was further clarified that all teachers will work from home as per the Instructions of respective school heads and any teacher can be called for any urgent work to school.


Various directions/ instructions of MHA, Ministry of Health. Government of India and Chandigarh Administration regarding social distancing, hygiene safety and health etc will have to be strictly complied with.


"It will be the responsibility of School Heads that no teaching or non-teaching staff comes to school either without properly covering his or her face with a mask or cloth piece or with symptoms of cough or fever etc. It is however clarified that teachers will not carry out regular classroom teaching in the school and no student will be called to school. These orders will come into effect from June 15, 2020 and will remain effective till further order."
