Tamil Nadu’s
Covid-19 tally moved closer to 35,000 with the state reporting 1,685 fresh cases on Tuesday. The state’s death toll reached 307 with 21 more patients succumbing to the viral infection.
As many as 1,242 of the new cases were from Chennai while 36 returnees from other states and countries tested positive.
Chengalpet reported 158 cases while Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram registered 90 and 32 cases respectively.
Madurai and Vellore logged 16 cases each. Tiruvannamalai, which also reported 16 cases from within, had three returnees testing positive.
Tirunelveli and Tuticorin recorded 10 cases each, while 18 other districts recorded a single digit increase.
Among those who died, five people -- including a 30-year-old man -- had no comorbidities. The oldest was a 90-year-old man.
On Tuesday, 798 walked out of different hospitals taking the total number of cured people to 18,325. There were 16,279 active cases, including 12,570 cases in Chennai.
