Streaming giant Netflix recently released their latest original show Space Force, a workplace comedy-drama about the creation of a (fictional, as of now) sixth branch of the United States Armed Forces, the United States Space Force. Created by The Office writer and producer Greg Daniels, it stars Steve Carell and John Malkovich in leading roles. Silicon Valley
Like Space Force, this HBO original drama parodies real life workplace culture. In this case, it’s set in the Silicon Valley. The series revolves around five men who found a start up company and are now looking for investors. It aims to portray the culture of tech world, filled with socially awkward people who are extraordinarily intelligent. Think The Big Bang Theory, but better. It stars Kumail Nanjiani, TJ Miller, Thomas Middleditch, Martin Starr, Josh Brener and Zach Woods.

Veep
Another satire comedy about politics and bureaucracy, this show follows Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), the fictional vice president of the United States of America, and her dysfunctional team. It follows the day-to-day workings of the White House and the many political fires that she has to put out regularly. The critically-acclaimed show has won several awards, including Primetime Emmy Awards, Critics’ Choice Television Awards, and several nominations at the Golden Globes.

Avenue 5
This sci-fi comedy series is also about space travel and unstable leadership. Except, it’s set in the far future. After an accident, the interplanetary cruise ship, Avenue 5 gets thrown off course. It’s estimated that it would take years to get back to Earth, instead of the few weeks they had estimated before the accident. Chaos ensues when people realise that the resources on the spaceship will run out soon. It stars Hugh Laurie and Josh Gad in leading roles, and has been renewed for another season.

The Office
Let’s be honest. You largely watched Space Force because you wanted to watch something by Greg Daniels that features Steve Carell again, didn’t you? Whether you answered with a yes or no, The Office (the American version) should be on your watchlist if you loved Space Force. One of the best performances by Steve Carell, the show is a mockumentary style TV show about a motley group of people who work together in a mid-level paper distribution company. While it’s not been scientifically proven, watching The Office episodes on repeat can transport you to a time when everything was less apocalypse-y.

The Orville
Workplace parodies set in and around outer space exploration is a more popular genre than you thought. The Orville, set in the 25th century, is another addition to the list. Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has created and starred in the series as the captain of the spaceship, USS Orville. Each episode focuses on a new adventure faced by the crew onboard the ship. It regularly references and parodies some of the best known films and TV shows about space travel. Watch it if you can handle MacFarlane’s brand of humour and love sci-fi classics like The Star Trek.

Upload
Another for-the-web science fiction comedy series by Greg Daniels, Upload is a must-watch for people who liked Black Mirror but would have preferred it to be a little less scary. The year is 2033 and humans are now able to ‘upload’ themselves into a virtual afterlife after their death. They can also choose between different brands and offers for their digital afterlife. Computer programmer Nathan (Robbie Amell) is involuntarily uploaded to the digital afterlife Lakeview, a luxe option that can only be afforded by one per cent of the population. The only way he could get into Lakeview is because of his super-rich girlfriend, who now essentially owns him. As he finds himself adjusting to his new ‘life’, he starts developing feelings for his still-alive customer care rep, Nora (Andy Allo).
