The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the Government of Rajasthan on a petition demanding the CBI to investigate the suspicious death of Vikrant Nagaich, a student of National Law University, Jodhpur, in the year 2017. A three-member bench headed by Justice Nariman has asked the state government why the police did not reach any conclusion in the matter.

The bench has asked the state government to file a status report of the investigation. This petition has been filed by Neetu Kumar Nagaich, the mother of the deceased student. The petition states that even after three years, the police have not reached any conclusion. Due to the poor police investigation process, the case should be investigated by the CBI. On August 14, 2017, Vikrant's body was found near the railway line near the college.
