What's New
If you've been waiting to see Janhvi Kapoor on-screen once again, you're in for a treat. Here's a peek at the actor's next big project, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, which will soon be making its way to Netflix
After making her debut in the Dharma Productions' Dhadak, Janhvi Kapoor will now be featuring in her next project, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. The biopic, which was initially set to release on March 13, 2020, was unable to open in theatres due to India's nationwide mandated lockdown, an effort to flatten the COVID-19 curve. Now, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is all set to release on Netflix, just weeks after Irrfan Khan-starrer English Medium's online release. The film, which sees Janhvi Kapoor in the lead role, also stars Angad Bedi and Pankaj Tripathi. While Kapoor steps into the shoes of India's first Air Force woman officer, Bedi will be seen playing Gunjan Saxena's brother, and Tripathi will be portraying her father. Here's a peek at the upcoming film.
The very first poster of Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl was released by Kapoor on her Instagram page back in August 2019, and showed the star holding up a paper plane with a big smile on her face, and and the quote "Ladkiyan pilot nahi banti" (girls don't become pilots).
Following this visual, the actor also shared two more sneak peeks from the film, in which fans saw her dressed in a pilot's uniform. Kapoor's look matches that of Gunjan Saxena's perfectly, as can be seen in the snapshot shared on Dharma Productions' Instagram page. "We are proud to be telling the true story of Flight Lt. Gunjan Saxena, India's first Air Force woman officer who went to war - on the big screen," said the production house's post. Scroll to check it out.
Directed by Sharan Sharma and produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl spotlights her journey from becoming a pilot to leading India into the Kargil war of 1999 and emerging victorious. The movie will also focus on the relationship between Saxena and her father, who was her pillar of strength.
According to reports, Janhvi Kapoor followed a demanding fitness routine to prepare for her role as Saxena . "She is working out six days a week, for two to three hours daily. For the first two days, she does EMS [Electrical Muscle Stimulation]—for 25 minutes, and the remaining four days are dedicated to Pilates. She has a back injury because of which her training has to be monitored," celebrity trainer Namrata Purohit revealed to Mid-Day. "Janhvi has a sweet tooth. So, my mother makes these healthy laddoos with jaggery and nuts. Ideally, she is allowed one a day, but she gulps down three of them."
Can't wait to see Janhvi Kapoor transform into Gunjan Saxena on your home screen? You'll have to wait a few more days to finally watch the film. The star will also soon be seen in Dostana 2, Takht and Roohi Afza.
