Accusing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal of stopping the benefits from the Centre reaching the people of the State, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that people would remove the TMC from power in the next Assembly election.

“We want to send money to the farmers but we do not have the list of beneficiaries. There should be a limit to politics. The entire country, including Arvind Kejriwal, has accepted the Ayushman Bharat scheme, but Mamataji is still opposing it,” Mr. Shah said at a virtual rally for supporters of West Bengal.

The Centre was willing to transfer ₹6,000 under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi to each farmer within two days after getting the list of beneficiaries from the State. “We are ready to fight politically with you, why are you dragging farmers into this,” he said.

Referring to the remarks made by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that the Centre was welcome to take matters in their own hands if they felt that the Bengal government was unable to handle the situation, Mr. Shah said that Ms. Banerjee’s wishes would be fulfilled soon.

“We have sent ₹11,000 crore directly to the people of Bengal, and Mamataji is offering political sarcasm. The people of Bengal are soon going to fulfil her wishes as the BJP will form the next government in the State,” the Union Home Minister said.

Mr. Shah’s virtual address, which comes in the wake of the outbreak of COVID-19 and cyclone Amphan, referred to all issues relating to the politics of the State, including the return of the migrants, political violence and corruption.

The former BJP president accused the Chief Minister of disrespecting migrants by calling the Shramik Express trains ‘Corona Express’ and added that migrants would not forget this “insult” and would “ensure your exit from the State”. Mr. Shah listed the abolition of triple talaq, the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the scrapping of Article 35 A and Article 370 as the achievements of the Narendra Modi government.

‘All rhetoric, no substance’

Responding to Mr. Shah’s remarks, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee said that as usual the speech of @AmitShah Ji “was all rhetoric and no substance”.

“Nonetheless since he has talked about his dream of seeing ‘EXIT’ of TMC, I would like to ask him one more time — When are the Chinese EXITING our territory,” Mr. Banerjee wrote on social media. The official Twitter handle of the party said that it was Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee “who restored statue of Vidya Sagar, vandalised by his [Amit Shah] men in front of his own eyes”.
