THANE: The civic authorities have confirmed that though the number of
Covid-19 cases have crossed over 4,000, the positive cases are increasingly mainly in five areas of the Thane Municipal Corporation.
The authorities claimed that the rise is majorly seen in
Savarkar Nagar,
Lokmanya Nagar pada no.3 and 4, CP Talao area in Waghle Estate, Kisan Nagar, Kausa in
Mumbra. They stated that it is in these
high dense population pockets, many times, they come across 30 to 60 high risk contacts of a positive patient.
“The cases are mainly increasing in these five pockets as compared to the rest of TMC area. While the increase in Kausa was seen post Ramzan festival, in the other four areas there has been a continuous increase as people have not been following the lockdown rules. Social distancing is not maintained in these areas and while the main roads are empty, the small lanes of these clustered structures and slums are busy,” said Dr
Ram Kendre, in charge of coronavirus cases in Thane.
It is learnt that the Lokmanya- Savarkar Nagar ward reported 957 positive cases till Sunday. This area has the highest COVID19 cases and the increase was seen post an incident wherein, two bodies of positive patients were by mistake handed over to the family for cremation.
