Wall collapse kills girl in TN’s Erode

ERODE: A three-year-old girl died and her brother suffered injuries when a compound wall collapsed on them in Tamil Nadu’s Erode on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as P Rudra Priya, daughter of Prem Kumar, 32, and Ragini, 30 Kakkan Nagar in Karungalpalayam area. The couple had two children, Rudra Priya and a six-year-old son, Jeevith Kumar, police said.
Erode Municipal Corporation workers were constructing an underground drainage system in the area. “The workers had dug a pit to lay pipes,” said S Balamurugan, inspector at Karungalpalayam police station. The pit was dug close to Prem Kumar house’s compound wall.
On Tuesday morning, both Jeevith Kumar and Rudra Priya were playing close to the wall. “Suddenly, the wall collapsed and fell on the kids. Rudra Priya died on the spot while her brother sustained injuries,” the inspector said
The boy was rushed to a government hospital. Doctors said Jeevith’s condition was stable.
The Karungalpalayam police registered a case and initiated an inquiry.
