The tenth-generation Ford Thunderbird was a bit forgettable, but this model surely deserved a better fate than being turned into this retro-inspired monstrosity.
Currently listed on eBay, this 1996 T-Bird has been extensively customized to replicate the “iconic look of a ’50 Ford street machine.”
Billed as a “terrific way to get some attention,” the model has been equipped with a unique front fascia that features circular headlights and Corvette-like grille. The model also has massive front fenders, a fiberglass hood and chromed mirrors which have been lazily installed right in front of the originals.
Continuing further back, there’s aftermarket wheels and a sad side exiting exhaust. The car has also been equipped unique rear fenders, a generic-looking trunk and “wraparound ribbed bumpers.”
Despite all the exterior modifications, the cabin carries over untouched. Highlights include cloth seats, air conditioning and power windows / locks. The model also a cassette player which appears to be the only legitimate retro thing about the car.
Under the hood, there’s a 3.8-liter V6 engine which presumably produces 145 hp (108 kW / 147 PS) and 215 lb-ft (292 Nm) of torque. It sends power to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission with “highway-friendly overdrive.”
The T-Bird has 138,845 miles (223,449 km) on it and a buy it now price of $14,995 (£11,779 / €13,224). That’s probably not too bad considering the amount of work that went into it, but we’d just stick to the original.
