COIMBATORE: District administration and school education officials on Tuesday sealed a government-aided school in Coimbatore for conducting an entrance exam for Class VI students, which was in violation of the Tamil Nadu government’s order not to function at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Further, the school had also violated the rule that government-aided schools shouldn’t hold entrance tests for admission, said officials.
Officials said they had launched an inquiry and, based on the outcome of it, would decide on the further course of action to be taken.
On Tuesday morning, parents and students gathered at the CSI Boys Higher Secondary School, Town Hall, for the entrance test.
A well-wisher had sent a written complaint to the district collector regarding this, and reporters too had sent him pictures and videos of parents and students gathered inside the school.
Following this, district collector K Rajamani ordered a team of officials, including the tahsildar and the chief education officer, to visit the school and seal it if violation was proven.
The tahsidar said they had sealed the school based on a complaint and the school education officials had initiated an inquiry.
Chief education officer P Usha said the school had violated the rule that aided schools should not hold entrance tests. “In addition, at a time when the state has been carrying out several precautionary measures for Covid-19, the school had let parents and students inside the campus, which is a violation of the state’s GO. As we had evidence of the violation, we have sealed the school as an initial action,” she said.
