243 more test positive for Covid in Gurgaon, toll rises to 9

Gurgaon: In its highest single-day spike, 243 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the city on Monday, taking its case count to 2,165. The Covid toll climbed to nine too, with five more deaths being reported.
All patients who died had comorbidities and were above the age of 60 — three men aged 85, 80 and 66; and two women aged 72 and 65.
“Their comorbidities included chronic pancreatitis, hypertension and multiple organ failure. All of them are elderly and age contributed to complications. One of the patients also had a history of nephrology consultation,” said a health department official.
“We have added four more ALS ambulances to our fleet. We are emphasising on timely referral. The decision to admit a patient who is symptomatic should be taken timely without any delay,” said chief medical officer J S Punia.
As of Monday, Gurgaon’s recovery rate was 26.7%, with 129 patients more discharged after recovery.
The first major spike in the city was reported on May 6 when 17 people, most of them linked to Azadpur mandi, tested positive and the cases jumped to 104. Gurgaon went past the 200 mark on May 17 and the 300 mark on May 26.
