Covid-19: India stands fifth among world’s worst affected countries

With regards to the number Covid-19 cases, India has surpassed Spain and Italy and now stands fifth in the worst-affected countries all over the world, according to the John Hopkins report.

The new report from the Ministry of Homes Affairs reveals that the country has recorded the biggest one-day jump in the number of coronavirus deaths and cases, with a spike of 331 deaths and 9,987 cases in the last 24 hours.

While the total number of cases has increased to 2,66,598, the death toll in the country has surged to 7,466. 1,29,215 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated.

While the United States (US), the worst affected by the coronavirus crisis with 3,311,387 cases of the coronavirus, according to World Health Organisation (WHO), witnesses plummeting of the infection rate and is all set to reopen New York city. However, for India, the graph continues to rise as the experts believe that it has not its highest yet, News18 reported.

Meanwhile, India’s hotspot Maharashtra has crossed China’s tally in the number of coronavirus cases.

According to the public health department of the government of Maharashtra, the State had 85,975 confirmed cases of Covid-19 as of June 7. The same figures were updated by the Ministry for Health and Family Welfare on Monday morning, News18 reported.

In comparison, China had 84,191 confirmed cases as of Sunday, as per Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE).
