Pune Municipal Corporation open five parking lots

As Pune takes its path towards normalcy, the city has witnessed an increase in the traffic. People now are moving out of their houses for their work and now are facing the difficulty of parking their vehicles.

Pune: As Pune takes its path towards normalcy, the city has witnessed an increase in the traffic. People now are moving out of their houses for their work and now are facing the difficulty of parking their vehicles. This has prompted the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to re-open its five such parking lot out of the total 26.

Since March 17, the lockdown was imposed on citizens and apart from essential utility services other shops and business were closed, including public transport and private transport.

The five parking lot that has been started are Hamal Wada on Kumthekar Road, Survey number 709/710 Kumthekar Road on Narayan peth, Bhanuvilas Parking Narayan Peth, PMPML Terminal, Katraj and Tukaramseth Shinde Vahantal at Pune Station will start operating.

While the PMC in coming days is also planning to start the parking for vehicles at the two roads on Shirole lane at FC road, Rasta Peth based Rajashree Shahu Udyan, parking area near Apollo cinema hall and more.

The parking lots of PMC which are in containment area as well as near it will be closed for parking vehicles. As well as the parking lot at Annabhau Sathe hall and Ganesh Krida Hall will remain closed. 

To avoid heavy movement of traffic congestion on Aundh-based Bhimsen Joshi Kaladalan, Balgardharv, Peshwa Garden and Katraj based Rajiv Gandhi Udyan parking area will also remain shut.

The PMC Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad said, “People are moving out of their houses and parking has become an issue of concern. To overcome it, we have started five parking lot and later based on the banned lifted in other areas considering the future scenario the other parking area of PMC will re-open so that people can follow the social distancing norm also while parking.“
