FALL RIVER — As restaurants move into the outdoor dining phase of reopening, Tequila Lime Cantina is eyeing outdoor seating on the sidewalks, said owner Christina Catelli.
The popular Mexican restaurant at the corner of Bank and Purchase streets is also sporting an entirely new look to its interior after closing for updates amid the coronavirus-related ban on dining in at restaurants.
By removing the wall behind the bar, the space has been completely opened up and in the process, the seating at the bar has doubled.
The fresh look to the restaurant also includes a large Day of the Dead-inspired mural on the Purchase Street side of the restaurant interior and another one in the works in the dining area to the left of the entrance.
Essentially everything is new in the dining areas including the floors and tables and chairs. Chef Orlando Guthrie said customers who have gotten a sneak peek at the new look while picking up food to-go have said it looks “amazing.”
Catelli said she has permission to do sidewalk seating on Purchase Street from last year and she will go before the appropriate city boards to seek permission to seat customers outside on the Bank Street side as well. She anticipates offering minimal seating outside initially phasing it in slowly and safely. “When you have outdoor dining you have to have someone out there all the time. There’s a lot that goes into it,” she added.
As part of his Reopening Massachusetts plan, Gov. Charlie Baker has asked municipalities to work with restaurants that want to offer outdoor dining in places such as sidewalks. City Councilors Linda Perreira and Michelle Dionne submitted a resolution to the City Council on Tuesday to bring interested parties in the city together to discuss guidelines for restaurants seeking to do sidewalk dining.
Tequila Lime Cantina is located at 197 Bank St. Closed Sundays, the restaurant is currently offering takeout, daily specials and curbside pickup.
