Ulhasnagar civic body sanitize public toilets amid Covid spread in slum areas

ULHASNAGAR: All public toilets in Ulhasnagar are being disinfected and sanitised by Ulhasnagar municipal corporation (UMC) amid the spread of Covid-19 in slum areas.
The city has so far reported total 580 coronavirus positive cases, including 23 deaths, and most of the cases are reported from slum areas.
The UMC's sanitisation department on Monday started disinfection and sanitisation work in to 60 public toilets situated in containment zones situated in Ulhasnagar.
The sanitation department officials said that they are using Zoono Surface Sanitizer used by BMC in Mumbai slums' public toilets.
Vinod Kene, in-charge of sanitisation department of UMC said, "We are using two Zoono surface sanitizer machines for sanitisation work in to public toilets which remains effective for 30 days and prevent the spread of Covid-19." Kene said, "Once all public toilets sanitisation will complete again it will be done after 30 days."
Ulhasnagar is known as one of the congested city with large around 10 lakh population residing in 13 kilometres area.
According to health department officials, maximum cases have been reported from slums like Brahmanpada, Shanti Nagar, Dhobhi Ghat, Gaikwadpada, Bhim Nagar and Shahad Phatak area.
