Validity of vehicles and drivers’documents that expired from February 1 onwards can be considered valid till September 30, if the States were to agree with Road Ministry’s advice to extend the validity of these papers.
The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and MSME Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday announced further extension of the validity date of motor vehicle documents till September this year, said an official release. The Ministry has issued an advisory to all States and Union Territories to this effect.
Earlier, the Transport Ministry had issued an advisory on March 30, 2020 to all States and Union Territories wherein it was advised that the validity of Fitness, Permit (all types), Driving Licence, Registration or any other concerned document whose extension of validity could not or not likely be granted due to lockdown and which had expired since 1st of Feb, 2020 or would expire till May 31, 2020, the same may be treated to be valid till 31st of May 2020 for enforcement purposes and that the enforcement authorities be advised to treat such documents valid till 30th of June, 2020.
However, Covid-19 concerns still continue, and as per the requests received, Gadkari directed his Ministry to issue advise for extension of this period till September 30 for treating the documents valid for enforcement purposes, the release added.
