On Monday, Maharashtra recorded 2,553 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total to 88,528. Out of the total, Mumbai accounts for 50,085 cases and Thane for 13,528 cases. However, the total number of active cases in the state are 44,374, out of which Mumbai has 26,345 active cases. Meanwhile, the death toll stands at 1,702 in Mumbai.

Thane has recorded a total of 13,528 cases out of which 8,110 are active cases and the death toll is at 336. Maharashtra's total death count has gone up to 3,169, out of which 109 succumbed to the disease on Monday.

The health department officials said, 32 of the total deaths reported yesterday took place in the past 48 hours and the remaining occurred between May 3 to June 5, 2020. In Mumbai, 51 deaths were recorded, Aurangabad recorded eight deaths, three hailing from Ratnagiri, and four deaths in Dhule. The remaining out of 77 deaths were from Ahmednagar, Bhivandi, Jalgaon, Jalna, Kalyan-Dombivali, Nashik, Pune, Solapur, Thane, Ulhasnagar and Vasai-Virar, one each from the cities.

According to reports 5,64,736 people are at home quarantine, 26,760 people are under institutional quarantine by the health department. Only 75,759 beds are available at the quarantine institutions.

Presently, the state holds 3,654 active containment zones. Cluster containment action plan is being executed in regions where a cluster of people was found COVID-19 positive, as per the Central Government's advisory.

RECOVERY RATE

The recovery rate in Maharashtra stands at 46.28 per cent and the mortality rate at 3.57 per cent. The state public department informed in a press meet, till date, 5,64,331 samples have been taken and of it, 88,528 people have tested positive for the coronavirus, which is 15.68 per cent of the total samples taken as of June 8.
