Yes, its true, COVID-19, a 120 nm virus brought the world to virtually a standstill. It has made every individual pause, stop and think. In the midst of crisis, we often see ordinary people do extraordinary things. Our #HealthcareHeroes have gone above and beyond their call of duty while a number of patients have emerged victorious during this pandemic. In this series, the frontline warriors of Ruby Hall Clinic answer some of the many questions you may have regarding life post coronavirus while patients elucidate their journey to recovery. The year 2020 will go down in history, not just for the coronavirus pandemic, but for the many ways in which people are choosing to stand together join forces and support the vital efforts of those who continue to provide the essential services we need to live. For this, we couldn’t be more grateful.

As some of India’s largest domestic congregations open once again in what is known as Unlock 1.0, you must know that we at Ruby Hall Clinic are working round the clock to keep you safe. The truth is that the lockdown is over, but the pandemic is not. At such a time, non-compliance to basic safety measures is not an option that holds true for any of us.

Keeping yourself and your family healthy during this time will not only hinge on behaviours like wearing masks, performing temperature checks, washing hands, and staying six feet apart. It will rely on getting all of us to do these things, every time, for however long it takes. Here’s what you can do to stay on top of it:

STICK TO A PLAN:

• Designate one person within the house to run errands like buying milk, vegetables or groceries, etc
• Set aside an area just outside the house wherein someone can place their products for you to collect and bring in to your house.
• Please ensure that you maintain a six feet distance while collecting or interacting with the individual

WHEN YOU STEP OUT OF THE HOUSE:

• Please ensure that you avoid coming within six feet distance of others and cover your face with a cloth mask at all times
• Always wipe the handles of carts or baskets while shopping Avoid using public transport if you have a private vehicle
• Please ensure you wear a mask in the elevator and maintain distance
• Instead of tracking your shoes and germs into the home, take them off and leave them outside
• Always wash your hands with soap and water for 20-30 seconds after coming back home and put your clothes for a wash

WHEN YOU GO TO OFFICE:

• Prefer telephonic interactions instead of face-to-face meetings and maintain necessary distance along with the mask
• Handshakes must be avoided at all costs
• Practice respiratory etiquette of folded elbow or tissue while sneezing coughing and dispose it in a closed bin after use
• Use a sanitiser after touching railings, grab bars, elevator buttons or door handles

WHEN YOU REQUEST FOR HOUSE HELP:

• Keep spare masks for your domestic help or utility service person
• Ensure anyone entering the house sanitises their hands and wears a mask before beginning any household chores
• Please get your domestic help tested before they rejoin in case they are from an earlier red zone

CLEAN, CLEAN AND CLEAN:

• Increase the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting high-touch areas such as light switches, door handles, TV remotes, keys and phones
• Wash clothes, towels and linens regularly on the warmest setting Don't shake dirty laundry to avoid dispersing the virus in the air

IF SOMEONE IN THE HOUSE GETS SICK:

• In case of COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, cough, breathlessness, nausea or diarrhoea you may be instructed to strictly isolate the individual in a separate room

These practices may feel daunting for many of us, especially those who haven’t been part of concerted home safety efforts before. But these are unusual times and if we want to keep everyone safe and healthy, we will have to do things outside of our comfort zones. This pandemic is precipitating a set of events unprecedented in our lifetime.
